Cantonese is a melodic, rhythmic, and expressive language spoken by over 85 million people worldwide—twice the population of Canada! Despite the wealth of treasures in the Cantonese choral repertoire, it has often been overlooked due to challenges such as unfamiliar Chinese characters, pronunciation concerns, and a lack of resources. This workshop, supported by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, aims to demystify the language and performance practices, while providing an opportunity to learn a Cantonese choral work together with the community. Plus, you’ll have the chance to experience live demonstrations of captivating Cantonese choral pieces performed by professional singers.
